Clinical protocols, developed by The Cleveland
Clinic Foundation, are exclusively available in HealthLine
Systems' Sharp Focus call center software. These adult and pediatric
guideline protocols are used by registered nurses in the contact center to provide
services such as:
- Demand management: refer to the clinically appropriate, cost-effective
site of care; reduce use of ER as primary care site
- Symptom-based clinical triage:
conduct nurse-directed primary care assessment and referral
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation guideline protocols
include more than 190 adult and pediatric guideline protocols developed as a
collaborative effort between Cleveland Clinic physicians and nurses.
Using these protocols, more than 7 million calls have been successfully triaged through
the award-winning Cleveland Clinic Nurse on Call program since 1991.
The Cleveland Clinic's guideline protocols have been put to the test with proven effectiveness.

With more than 1,700 physicians, representing 120 subspecialties, The Cleveland Clinic has
been consistently recognized for excellent medical care by national surveys of physicians and hospitals.
Since U.S.
News & World Report surveys of America's
Best Hospitals began in 1990, The
Cleveland Clinic has been ranked in the
top 10 best hospitals in the nation.
The Cleveland Clinic Heart Center
has been ranked No. 1. Many other
specialties, including urology, digestive
disorders, orthopaedics, rheumatology,
ear,
nose and throat, neurology and
neurosurgery, gynecology, and hormonal
disorders, are ranked among the top 10.

"The clinical design
of
The Cleveland Clinic Protocols
assures our nurses' ability to assess
symptom-based needs without seeing the patient.
Our pediatricians are confident with the quality
of the triage and health information their
patients receive from our call center. Guideline
protocols allow nurses to facilitate an
open-ended discussion of the problem and gather
a detailed description of accompanying
symptoms."

nurses to rapidly assess the level of
triage. The protocols are easier to
use than the competition and can be easily
adapted to changes in practice."

"What we really like
about
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation
protocols is that they provide our nurses with
direction yet allow the autonomy to make
appropriate clinical decisions. They can be
easily modified to suit our specific facility
needs."
